The four days of competition started with the opening ceremony on Sunday morning. Athletes from eleven different countries arrived and the ceremony was a great opportunity to get to know a lot of them. The competition started on Monday with the Beach race. 20 guys started the 10 kilometer race. My start was pretty good, but after a few meters I got thrown of my board. After that swim I couldn’t find back my rhythm and speed. I was absolutely not satisfied with my results but I hadn’t many time to be angry about this because the SUP surfing contest started already some hours later. The next day was the SUP surfing competition again. I didn’t make my first heat, because I got caught in the inside rip for quite a while and after that I couldn’t found a second good score. I fitted my way back in the repeat chart heats until I got stop on my third heat. I was leading the whole time, but felt to save on the outside while my competitors surfed two good waves in the inside. At the end they overtook me. The rest of the week I did my best to support my German team mates and also had a blast surfing some amazing waves in boardshorts the last two days.
